Alamo Movie Set, Dripping Springs

Here are photos from the movie set of the Alamo, released in the Spring, 2004. The set -- located near Dripping Springs, Texas -- recreates San Antonio, 1836.  More details on the movie and Alamo history are available at http://www.thealamofilm.com/.

The occasion for getting access to the movie set was the Legends of Texas Swing music festival, May 15, 2004 http://www.legendsoftexasswing.com/index.htm

For reasons of filming, the recreated town of San Antonio is not oriented the same as the real San Antonio, e.g. North on the movie set is not North in real life. Buildings -- Main Plaza, Alamo, etc.. -- are laid in the right relationship to one another, they are just rotated off their actual directions. Directions listed here are as per the real San Antonio.

This is Main Plaza, looking North, with San Fernando Cathedral left (red), the later location of the Vaudeville Theatre and Fatal Corner (blue - North East corner of plaza), and Council House, site of the Council House battle of 1840, a pivotal moment in relations between Texans and Comanches (pink - East side of plaza)

A better view of the Council House, East side of Main Plaza .. notice they have included the clock shown in old paintings.

Main Plaza, from behind San Fernando looking East.

The Alamo Mission complex, looking East from about half way between San Fernando and the Alamo. Alamo in red.

South gate entrance into Alamo Mission complex, complete with gates. The gates purported to possibly be the originals are on display at the Bob Bullock Texas History Museum  http://www.storyoftexas.com/exhibit/first.shtm

Inside the Alamo mission complex, looking East.

Inside the Alamo Mission complex, looking out a window to the West towards downtown San Antonio .. San Fernando Cathedral center.

Canon ramp inside the Alamo, as it would have looked facing East.

And speaking of Legends of Texas Swing .. Johnny Gimble (on the left!)
